EPPS BITING FLY TRAP - How It Works

Uniquely effective because it traps biting flies by using the flies own natural behavior patterns.

Many biting flies are attracted to large dark objects or contrasting color to the surroundings because such objects

tend to be potential hosts like cattle, deer and horses. Also, biting flies such as horse flies, deer flies, green head flies,

yellow head flies, stable flies and black flies tend to circle around the host before actually landing to bite.

The EPPS Trap takes advantage of these behaviors by providing a large, contrasting surface area, with transparent areas

(which are actually clear plastic deflectors) representing air space between an animal’s legs and over its back through which

the flies would normally circle before feeding. Flies see the deflectors as open space and try to fly through them. They hit

the deflectors and ricochet into the soapy water in the trays below. Dish soap is added to the water in the trays to cause

the flies to be wetted and drown faster. Check the trap every few days.

WOW! This is the ultimate biting flytrap, and you’ll wonder how you ever managed without it. The trap requires, no electricity,

chemical or messy baits, just add soapy water. This trap is environmentally sound… In the past poisons have been used to

control insects. However the use of poisons is not favored due to the deleterious effects on the environment, and the possibility

of killing potentially beneficial insects.

Maintenance:

- Check the trap at least twice a week: - kills an average of 1lb. per day

- use an aquarium net (provided) or tea strainer to empty out caught flies.

- add additional water and soap as needed.

- adjust bar ties to keep targets more or less flat, level trays, replace torn deflectors, etc. as needed

- keep weeds cut down around trap; weeds growing under the bottom tray reduce fly catch

Location:

The Trap works best when placed in open, sunlit areas of pastures, and other areas where biting flies

are common and the trap is easy to see from a distance. Avoid placing trap in woods or other densely

vegetated areas. Use several traps, or move trap every so often to find the best area to trap.

-in pastures: place trap in an open area away from tree line or dense vegetation. Use at least one trap for every

20 acres of pasture.

-around stables, dry lot dairies, and feedlots: place trap outside of stalls or pens where animals are being attacked

by biting flies. Trap should be in an open, sunlit area near animals, but far enough away (10 feet or more)

from fences or buildings that it appears as a distinct, stand-alone object.

-around homes, pools, or patios: Place trap in an open, sunlit area away from bushes, trees, and fences

-in wooded parks and similar areas: place trap in more open areas without heavy underbrush, for example along

trails or clearings

 What Our Customers Are Saying

I must admit that I was not sure if the strange looking contraption we had put together was going to do any good with the tons of biting flies we

have here in NC.  After a little struggle putting the trap together, we sat back and looked at it wondering what technology it used and if it was really going

to work on our fly infestation.

The next day I was blown away when I walked to the barn and saw the bottom tray FILLED with dead flies and bugs.   The top tray was almost overflowing.

I emptied it and waited until that evening, figuring it had to be a fluke, certainly it did not work that well.

Only 11 hours later, the top tray was filled again.  The bottom was nearly filled.

The horses not only got used to it very quickly, but stayed around it during the heat of the day, not swishing their tails nor stomping their feet.

It didn’t take them long to figure out that was the best place to hang out and graze fly free!

That trap will be the first thing I put up every spring and the last thing I put away in the fall.

As the owner of a boarding stable, I do all I can to make life comfortable for my clients. We have had a terrible problem with the horses being eat

up by all sorts of biting flys...I learned about the EPPS Biting Fly Trap last year from a lady who was training a horse for one of my boarders and I

knew I would have to give it a try, even tho it sounded too good to be true, and man am I glad I did!  After counting about a houndred the first day

(which was quite chilly), we quit counting cause there were just too many to keep up with. I LOVE IT!

Just wanted to let you know that I was sceptical at best when I bought the Fly Trap from you, however, I have been proved wrong! We have been using it for about a

week and are convinced. The first day we caught about 10 horse flys, and every day since the numbers have been going up. We catch pretty much what you said we

would catch plus a few others like Wasps and beetles. We did see one horse fly the other day but in about an hour he was "History" in the fly trap. It is easy to maintain

just like you said. So I thank you and so do my horses!

Thanks again,

As a veterinarian I have found this product to be the most effective of its kind on the market today. I first saw an Epps biting fly trap at a clients

farm almost 8 years ago. She told me how effective it was at killing the biting flies such as those huge Horse flies, Deer flwhich are quite troublesome in our area.

She convinced me to try it and I was amazed at how it started to catch flies as we were setting it up.

We had caught and killed hundreds of flies in the first 24 hours. Ever since I have recommended the Epps biting fly trap to all of my clients.

The horses even know where the trap is and enjoy the 'Fly Free Zone'. It is also environmentally friendly since it uses no chemicals only

liquid soap and water.

Angela Gell Stanaway, DVM

Hi, We have had the fly trap about 5 years and it is holding up well, only need to replace the plastic sheets every other

year . we found. This is easy to do. In peak fly season we are scooping out large quantities of ugly, big flies with a fish

scoop net we get in the pet aisle in any store. The trap seems to work very well. We hate those biting flies as much as the

three horses we have do. Along with the fly predators for the normal flies, we are winning the war on all flies. Would

recommend this fly trap to anyone with horses.

Let me tell you about the birds and the bees and of course the HORSE FLIES.

Yes, we have all of the above in Texas and ours are all Texas size, BIG.

I'm happy to say that thanks to Epps Biting Fly Trap there's a lot fewer biting flies of all types around our horses. The first day

I got the trap up and running, I counted eighty dead in the soapy water.

The only thing I can say about the Epps is that it really works. After its set up there's almost no effort in keeping it in operation and

it works 24 hours a day with no electricity or harmful chemicals.

My horses checked it out one time and then just ignored it.

I recommend it to all who want to reduce their fly problem and make their horses a lot happier.

This is one of the best pieces of horse equipment I have ever bought!

Andy Espiau Van, TX

I raise American Paint Horses for a living. We at one time had 65 horses on our breeding farm. My broodmares were being constantly bombarded

with horseflies. The flies would congregate on their udders. This would inhibit the foals from sucking. The horse flies would leave a trail of blood all

over the mares under belly and the foal muzzles. It was HORRIBLE!

I discovered the Epps Biting Fly Trap several years ago, and have not had a problem since! The first summer we would count the flies in the trap,

we'd get 100's every day. The next summer the population had significantly decreased. Now, they are hardly noticable, as long as my fly trap has

water in it.

It's an incredible invention, very easy to use, durable, and extremely good at catching biting flies. I'm very happy with my fly trap.

Thank-you, very much.

Tracy Liller  Corry, PA

We have had the Epps Fly Trap for many years. It is the only method we have found to decrease the number of the biting horse flies we have each summer.

Dick & Bernice Dunn, Seneca, Illinois

I love my fly trap. I catch over 200 per day in the bad fly season.
